Calling all community choir and singers – celebrate MK in song with this exciting new project for the summer
DiverCity is a brand new set of songs created to celebrate MK and is freely available to all community choirs and schools across the city.
Composed by Craig McLeish with words by Yaw Asiyama, this song cycle is inspired by the MK story, by the place and the people, but the songs also have universal themes that can speak to communities in other places. The songs include different styles that range from hymn-like to dramatic, from a jazzy pop to a lyrical poetic style.
Some of the songs are written with young voices in mind, others can provide an interesting and challenging arrangement for more experienced singers to take on, and all can be sung on their own or as part of the whole song cycle.
The songs were commissioned by The Stables with support from MK Community Foundation, as part of MK50 programme of events celebrating 50 years of Milton Keynes.
World premiere! Sunday 8 July – get involved!
The first performance of the full song cycle will be a free public performance on Sunday 8 July at 2pm in Middleton Hall, Centre MK.
We are looking for more community choir members and singers to be involved. If you would like to help celebrate MK in song and take part in the first performance, and you are currently a member of a community choir or a singer who can read music, please get in touch.
There are some free open workshop and rehearsal sessions to help singers learn the songs. Singers need to be able to make at least 2 of the 4 rehearsal dates, be available on Sunday 8 July for rehearsal and performance, and be able to do some learning on their own between sessions.
Free downloadable score and audio tracks for the songs are available below.
To register an interest and find out more contact firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know about your singing experience, if you sing or have sung with a choir of any sort, and, if you know, what your range is or what part you usually sing in (soprano, alto, baritone, bass).
