This practical workshop introduces the blues, looking at playing techniques such as turnarounds, shuffles and basic basslines, demystifying ‘V-IV-I’ blues chord sequences and introducing fundamental blues techniques such as finger picking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, using examples from classic Blues recordings.
Participants need to be comfortable with the chords of E, A, and B7 and be able to change confidently between them. It will also be helpful if you know what a scale is but not essential as the blues scale will be introduced in a very practical way.
Joff Watkins is an accomplished blues player who combines performing and teaching, including leading the highly popular blues harmonica workshops here at The Stables. Participants will need to bring a 6 string acoustic guitar.
Tea & coffee is provided.
Participants on a full day workshop or course should bring a packed lunch and other snacks.
