Del Bromham: The Birthday Boy
Yes, it’s Del Bromhams’ birthday and what could be better than helping him celebrate it at The Stables.
Del has been playing solo shows around the UK and tonight he will be playing songs from his career in music and telling stories about his influences, including the people he has met and worked with. His critically acclaimed autobiography Rock and Roll Survivor will be available and Del will sign copies for you after the show.
As far as he can remember, Del has always had music in his life. He was just 11 years old when his brother gave him his first guitar which someone had dumped in his dustbin. By the time he was 12 he was forming his first band at school in Shepherds Bush, West London and by 14 he was playing in his brothers group The Traders, playing the pubs and working men’s clubs. Around the same time he formed his own group with school friends and called themselves The Stray. By 1970 at 18 years of age he had signed his first record deal with Transatlantic Records and released the first self-titled album STRAY. Stray went on to record around 12 studio and various live albums and has constantly toured.
More information
There have been other artistes who have covered songs by Del Bromham and STRAY, notably Iron Maiden who recorded and released STRAY’s arguably best known song, All In Your Mind as the flip side to their no.1 single Holy Smoke. Although with varying line-ups over the years, Del still tours as STRAY as well as having his own solo career. He has recorded four solo albums, the most recent of which - the critically acclaimed White Feather - achieved the best reviews of his career to date. Del’s autobiography titled Rock and Roll Survivor and the new STRAY album titled ABOUT TIME were released worldwide in 2024.
Del had his first solo album The Devils Highway re-released on SingSong Music and was recently in the top 40 of the IBBA chart. Del has recently finished a sell-out tour of the UK with STRAY and this year, 2026, will be playing shows and festivals, both solo and with STRAY and notably have been invited to appear with Iron Maiden for Edfest at Knebworth House in July.
