
The capital’s best and most popular funk/soul band plays to packed houses throughout London and the South filling a variety of mainstream music venues (such as The Half Moon Putney). CFO’s loyal following quickly spread beyond just soul and funk aficionados to a wider circle of live gig fans and dance lovers.
The band is now regularly featured at festivals and 2025 sees them appearing amongst the headliners at the Saturday Love festival in North London where they’ve been enlisted to play an additional set backing legendary New York Festival luminary - ”Mr Funkin’ For Jamaica” - Tom Browne. Previously CFO has appeared as a ‘specialist’ opening act for the likes of Average White Band and Kid Creole and the Coconuts. CFO will open the Friday evening session at the long established Cropredy Festival this summer as well as closing out the Jazz Steps 2025 (Watford Jazz Junction) outdoor festival as the headline band.
City Funk Orchestra’s sound centres around the soul and funk ‘golden age’ of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, to which these top players have added the magic ingredient of genuine authenticity. Their own CFO penned material blends seamlessly amongst the big dance floor fillers the band have made their own.
Featuring two of the best soul singers in the UK in regular female lead Imaani (longtime lead singer with internationally acclaimed UK jazz funk legends Incognito), and from Cleveland Ohio the amazing Angelo Starr - brother of soul music luminary Edwin Starr - with a funky-as-hell rhythm section of Nial Tompkins -guitar, Carl Hudson-keys, Matt Pegg-bass, Geoff Dunn-drums.
