"Emily's voice is forged from the DNA of Jazz royalty... No surprise that it is gorgeous, smooth, lush..."
Ralph Salmins (Drummer/Producer)
Emily Dankworth has been in the studio the past year and it's been an immense journey, collaborating with such talented artists has been a dream. The EP title - Voyage (Part 1) - has a strong sense of meaning as most of the lyrics and music were composed whilst at sea and from somewhere deep in her imagination. Emily sings of love, hope, sailors and angels, with gorgeous vocal harmonies, drawing on the heritage of jazz music using the same instrumentation, but with contemporary themes.
Emily became a chorister in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC in 1997 and later with La Capella Mallorquina in The Balearics, where she shared the stage with Placido Domingo and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Emily has performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra alongside Wynton Marsalis, Damien Sneed and the 70-voice Chorale Le Chateau for the Abyssinian Mass. She is also a member of Voquality Singers, who recorded the soundtracks of the Grammy and Oscar winning films Black Panther and Wakanda Forever at Abbey Road Studios with choir leader Ken Burton, and in Candy Cane Lane (Eddie Murphy) in 2023.
Having secured a choral scholarship to the University of Canterbury, Emily then went on to graduate from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a Masters in Jazz Performance. Other notable performances include Boston Symphony Hall, The National Center for Performing Arts, (Beijing).
In 2018 Emily led a Vocal Workshop as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival at Kings Place London and was welcomed back in 2019 where she was the vocal coach for the EFG London Jazz Festival project “Women in Jazz” which performed at The Southbank Theatre. Other concerts include performances of “Freedom Song” and “The Sun Does Shine” 2024 at The Hackney Empire in London with Vox Holloway Choir and Harvey Brough (Harvey and The Wallbangers).
