
Harry Baker and Tom Syson (aka SYSON) bring their unique blend of original music and arrangements to Pizza Express Soho for the launch of their brand new EP. This a unique cross-genre project, with influences from jazz, classical and singer songwriter traditions. While this is predominately a duo musical exploration project, it is expanded into a quartet for this tour featuring the renowned Conor Chaplin (double bass) and Dave Hamblett (drums). They will perform arrangements from the likes of Cyrille Aimee, Laura Mvula and John Scofield, alongside jazz standards and classical masterpieces, as well as numerous original scores.
Harry Baker is an award-winning British pianist and arranger active at the highest levels of both jazz and classical performance. As a jazz musician, he has worked with Jamie Cullum, Misha Mullov-Abbado and others at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and King’s Place. As a classical pianist, collaborations with sopranos Fatma Said (Warner Classics), Danielle de Niese (Metropolitan Opera) and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason have led to performances at Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Verbier Festival. Recent international touring highlights include the Edinburgh International Festival, Lucerne Festival and Konzerthaus Berlin.
Vincent Bach artist Tom Syson is a critically acclaimed trumpeter and composer, and has performed at venues/events such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Barbican, Gibraltar International Jazz Festival, BBC Proms at The Royal Albert Hall and Porgy & Bess Vienna. He has performed with ensembles/artists such as the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, BBC Big Band, London Jazz Orchestra and Jacqui Dankworth, and has held the lead trumpet chair in the EuroRadio Jazz Orchestra 2018, National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Birmingham Jazz Orchestra. Syson has numerous releases to his name, including two critically acclaimed contemporary jazz albums that were featured on BBC Radio 3 and JazzFM, and recent solo artist releases such as The Necessity of Being Present feat. J Appiah, and his debut lead vocal release We’re Not Alone.
