Suntou Susso has just released his long-awaited second album, Jaliya Silokang - The Path of a Griot, and will be touring it across Summer / Autumn 2026 at festivals and venues throughout the UK as part of the official album tour.
Since his debut album in 2022, Suntou and his UK-based band have toured relentlessly, quickly becoming festival favourites - 29 festivals in 2024 alone. The 2026 live show promises even more of the mind-blowing musicianship, sunshine energy and huge joyful vibes that audiences have fallen in love with.
Born into the 700-year-old West African Griot tradition, Suntou’s music is grounded in a lineage of storytellers, historians, peace-bringers and teachers. Griots preserve the identity, culture and values of their communities — and their teachings feel more vital than ever in today’s world.
In Jaliya Silokang, Suntou draws on wisdom from elders and youth alike, offering songs that explore how to live a good, compassionate, connected life. The album honours his heritage while also imagining a hopeful, forward-looking future — positioning Suntou as both guardian and bold innovator of the Griot tradition.
As with his debut Kanéfonyo (Never Give Up), Suntou wrote, composed, arranged and produced the entire album. Rooted in the Afro-Manding style and enriched with folk, jazz and funk influences, the music reflects Suntou’s life as a bridge between The Gambia and the UK. This time, he brings his Gambian band to the UK to tour this powerful new work.
Suntou’s primary instrument is the kora, a 22-stringed harp-lute passed down through the Susso family for generations — central to the sound and story of the Griot tradition.
