Tim Kliphuis Trio: In Memory of Django

  • This event has now passed

“Classically trained and widely regarded as “the successor to Stéphane Grappelli”, Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis breathes new life into existing styles with a high-energy blend of classical, gypsy jazz and folk music, with a special nod for this performance to Django Reinhardt.

His improvised sound is totally new and appeals to a wide range of audiences and yet is steeped in tradition. Tim has made the the UK his second home through regular sell-out appearances at major festivals and venues throughout the country.

Tim is now exploring the myriad classical arrangements he has perfected over the years, to which he has added Reflecting the Seasons and Brandenburg Tim’s own take on Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons and Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. Most recently, Tim has been touring his composition The Five Elements, a look at our planet climate change through the medium of multi-genre music.”

Specific to the 17 May programme:

“Fresh from the hallowed grounds of Samois-sur-Seine, the birthplace of gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, the Tim Kliphuis Trio offer this programme of pieces by Django and his musical partner Stéphane Grappelli (and stories about them), to bring a smile to all faces and to get toes tapping.”

After kicking off the United Nations Water conference in March, the Tim Kliphuis Trio have decided to dedicate their May Tour to helping Water Aid UK by donating a quarter of their live sales and sharing a donation link. This way, their tour will also help benefit the 40% of people on earth who do not have access to clean water, a thing we in Europe take for granted!

In addition, Tim will be competing in the Cader Idris Fell Race in Wales, which is 10 miles long with an ascent/descent of 1,000 meters – a real challenge that audiences will love to hear about and support (in the past, the Trio successfully raised over £3,000 with three concerts for the Mountain Rescue in the Lake District ).

Your support with this venture is appreciated, too - we welcome any questions or suggestions you might have.
