“The UK’s answer to Diana Krall and Norah Jones"
Time Out Magazine
Regular Stables artist, singer-pianist-songwriter Joanna Eden is unmistakeably English in the same way as Christine McVie and Stevie Winwood, but her songwriting and voice lean heavily into the jazz and latin music of her heroes Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Sondheim, Bernstein, Gilberto and Getz.
Mojo magazine describes her songwriting as having ‘melody, mystery and bite’.
Joanna mentored superstar Sam Smith for 9 years. They credit her simply as "the reason I sing... she taught me everything I know". Smith put those words into action in August 24, inviting Joanna to join them on a duet at the Royal Albert Hall for their BBC Prom.
A writing and recording trip to South America lends a vibrant new sound to Joanna Eden's new album 'The Road To Paysandu'. Eden has always specialised in heart-felt storytelling but her latest line-up lends itself to joyous syncopation; the combination is intoxicating. Mixed by Grammy winning engineer Rich Breen in Los Angeles and recorded in part at Montevideo's legendary Sondor Studios, this album combines an English soul with a South American heartbeat.
Eden's beautifully crafted compositions ask questions of a life's journey - like her songwriting hero Joni Mitchell.
The quality of Joanna’s live work is reflected by the stellar list of artists she and her world class band have supported including Van Morrison, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Roy Hargrove, Omara Portuondo, The Buena Vista Social Club.
