Singing Lead Vocals and Microphone Techniques

  • - 5:00pm
  • Adult/15+ Workshop
book a place

Workshop Fee: £30

For singers who want to explore some of the technical, artistic and practical aspects of singing with a microphone. Perhaps you already sing in a choir, or play in a band, and want to try solo or lead vocals? You’ll look at equipment essentials, microphone technique and which mic to use, understanding monitoring, fold back and live mixing to get the best out of your sound, how to approach different styles of music such as rock, pop or jazz and how to tackle the challenges of fronting a band, whatever the size. You’ll also look at how ‘phrasing’ can help with the challenges of some songs and have a go at singing with backing tracks or stripped-down guitar accompaniment.

Please note this workshop is not a ‘singing lesson’ as such and won’t be about general singing technique, and you’ll need enough singing experience to know you want to have a go at singing solo.

You’ll need to bring an idea for one song you might like to try, bring the lyrics with you and ideally a backing track on memory drive or playable from an online link. (It may possible to download this on the day but contact us on education@stables.org if you need help or advice in this)

Tutor Jason Stretch has been a professional guitarist and singer for 30 years, playing in both rock bands, function bands for wedding and corporate clients, and big bands as well.

Refreshments:
Tea & coffee is provided.
Participants on a full day workshop or course should bring a packed lunch and other snacks.
