FAQs

What are the dates and times?

The Music Week is a five-day course and runs from Monday 11 - Friday 15 August. Each day starts at 8.45am and finishes at 6pm.

Who are the tutors?

The tutors are professional musicians, teachers or leaders of community music groups, all with DBS clearance, who are chosen for their inspirational musical leadership and commitment to coaching young people. There are also administration and support staff to help meet the pastoral needs of participants.

This group of exceptional people – many of whom are former participants themselves – volunteer their services and generously give their time to help to ensure that the opportunities available to young musicians in the past continue for a new generation.

Is food included?

Food is not included, and you will need to bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks each day. Some extra drinks and snacks will be available though to help keep you going through the busy days.

Can I leave my instrument overnight?

Yes, instruments can be left securely overnight in the building.

Can I bring my phone?

We have a ‘no phones during the day’ rule for security and safeguarding reasons, but also for the positive benefits it has foreveryone taking part.

Our ‘no phones’ policy is like that of many schools and is there to help everyone get the best out of the week.

No phones or devices means that everyone can focus on the music making  and get all the benefits of developing their playing, creativity, confidence building, independence, teamwork and communication skills.

Parents and participants from past projects have commented that a device-free week, free from pressures of social media and other distractions, has been a positive thing that allows them to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

If a participant needs to travel to and from the venue with phone, and the phone cannot be left with or taken away by parents, participants will be asked to hand them in at the start of the day for safe-keeping,  and will be returned at the end. The venue will be contactable by parents at all times in emergencies or exceptional circumstances, and in exceptional circumstances the venue can arrange for participants to call home.

(No devices rule includes phones, tablets, gaming devices, smart watches, any wi-fi or internet connected device.)

What is a Good Conduct agreement?

All participants and parents are asked to sign up to a ‘Good Conduct’ agreement. This says you agree to some important rules that are there to help everyone get the best out of the week.

Any participant not following the rules may be sent home at the Director’s discretion.

The Stables Summer Music week is Inspired by the National Youth Music Camps (1970-2019) - bringing an inclusive and accessible music making opportunity to a new generation of young musicians.
